ABOUT

Union of Arab Women of NYC is a grassroots group that started in 2016 in south Brooklyn. UAWNYC aims to build a community of strong and empowered Arab women to resist oppression and fight discrimination in NYC. UAWNYC empowers women to become organizers and activists, and to speak up on behalf of themselves, their families and their community members.

OUR APPROACH

CIVIC ENGAGEMENT EDUCATION

We provide civic engagement
program that promotes the importance of Arab Americans' participation in civic life, skills development, and self-reflection. Through this process, members understand their rights and responsibilities as they gain deeper knowledge and skills to make change.

COMMUNITY ORGANIZING

We believe Arab American community members understand their own issues like nobody else can, and must have a voice in decisions that affect their community. Therefore, we provide the strategies, tactics, and the skills necessary to mobilize the largest possible sector of women within our community to become organizers and make their voice heard.

ACTION

We register, canvass, and activate voters (and our neighbors who can’t vote!). We recruit, train and endorse progressive candidates, help them run efficient and effective campaigns, raise money for them, and give volunteers the opportunity to help these campaigns succeed.
